(Day 5) 11th March - Team Reflection

The group and I arrange to meet outside University hours to catch up and go over what we had so far. As I was working we arrange to meet after work at 5pm. I noticed that I still wasn't engaged/motivated or excited by the module which reflects in my efforts. I am doing the minimum, it shows that if I am confident in others I don't mind someone taking lead and I will step up if I need too. This also made me aware I may be judgemental which develops into lack of trust. Do I judge on the first meet and too quickly? Does my past knowledge of course mates hinder the trust?  Alongside this, I know in myself my full potential isn't being reflected and my efforts aren't there. Therefore, I need to become motivated and invested into the client brief .

(Day 4) 10th March - Empathy

I understand that in extreme circumstances I have great empathy, I also empathise heavily with those who struggle to defend themselves such as people who maybe disabled or even animals. This reflects in my personal life as I have been a vegetarian for 7 years, vegan for 2 years and I don't use any brands which aren't cruelty free as well as not wearing leather, sueded etc. So, I know my empathy is there however I need to work on this in the work place. Understanding others abilities, situations and capabilities when it comes to team work. In the on-action reflection on my last team work, it is clear to note that I could have approached challenges differently by understanding peoples backgrounds and knowing that they might not have experience within design management. Rather than understand and teach, I overpowered and started to control.  Empathy is described as a state of 'trying to fit in other peoples shoes' or from a sociological perspective it is the 'ability...

(Day 3) 9th March - My Research Aim

Image
Upon on-action reflection, I finalised my research aim/question and topics of interest to consider throughout my self-reflective journey.  How can a high emotional intelligence improve intrapersonal and interpersonal skills for efficient teamwork? Lack of trust : how can I trust my team mates?  Control: controlling my passion and need to dominate. How control relates into leadership ?  Emotional intelligence (EQ) : how does my emotional state impacts my work and team as an emotional person? Patience and empathy : understanding others and different personality types. “ Emotional intelligence (EI) refers to the ability to identify, assess, manage and control self and reactions to others' emotions”    Meyer J.D., Salovey P. & Caruso D.R. (2008) Emotional Intelligence: new ability or eclectic traits. American Psychologist 63 (6), 503–517,.  Karimi, Leila (01/01/2014). "Emotional rescue: the role of emotional intelligence and emotional labour on well‐bein...
