(Day 28) 29th April - Hannah's Group Review
As we close the group work and focus on our individual submissions, Hannah asked the group to answer questions on experience of the project. This was great to see how others felt.
Question 1) Name one thing that went well?
Question 2) One thing you have learnt from this project is...
Question 3) One thing you think could be improved?
Question 4) Name something / one skill you learnt about yourself that you would like to improve?
Hannah:
Q1) the final presentation
Q2) not to presume everyone knows what’s happening, even when they say it’s ok
Q3) group to me management - the next proj I would start out by doing ‘minI team interviews’ to identify strengths and weaknesses and create proj mgt task lists
Q4) my communication skills, I’ve read and practice some of the jo Owen skills and they had a better response in my WBL learner but need more practice in proj groups
Tanisha:
Ans 1- apart from the final presentation, I believe we all have had a number of personal learnings. This project has taught us above and beyond. I have never taken away so much learning from any grp work so far as I did from this. If that was the ultimate motive for this project, then that really went well.
Ans 2- I can count quite a few but the most important thing I learned was that, we must accept our mistakes first and make the right amends. This is much easier said than done.
Ans 3- A lot of things could have been improved. But we are all learning after all. The only easy thing that could have been done better is communication and understanding. We all had our fair share of unnecessary misunderstandings of each other. I guess it will take us time to really know each other and the kind of person we actually are.
Ans 4- In this group project one particular issue that kept resurfacing was our diversity in opinions. We all are pretty opinionated women! I admire that about us but that caused us trouble too. One thing I personally learned was the need to compromise and step back for the betterment of the team. Its again easier said than done.
We all have a lot to learn from this course from each other. For all that misunderstandings we had amongst us, if ai have hurt any of your feelings knowingly or unknowingly, I am truly sorry.
I am not saying this as an excuse but I know I have this tendency to argue. This is because my entire life has taught me to opinionated in order to survive.
My father had a transferable job. He is a gov employee in India. So From my childhood I had to move places a lot and change schools. From nursery to class 12 I changed 7 schools! Its a lot I know. So u see I always faced the trouble to be an outsider. Honestly everytime I went to a new school I had to again make new friends and that was hard. No one likes an outsider! I have been one throughout. So i guess my brain know in order to survive I have to be different and have opinions to never let my guards down. Everyone has their own challenges and struggles in life. This is mine. If that justifies any of my behaviour. Now when i reflect on that I realised what all I had to do and Why I am the way I am. And no i am not sorry for being me. This kept me thrriving till now and this is surely one my strengths that I will never give up on.
I don’t regret being opinionated. That might cause a couple of arguments but i think thats is good. It forces us to think differently and see things from diff perspectives. Although i might have unknowingly hurt some of your feelings. I am sorry for that. I never meant to. I am really glad to have worked with you all. Thank you and sorry for this huge msg!!
Anahita
First of all Thank you for everything you did for project progress.
Thank you for Imaani and Tanisha as well.
1. Final project
2. I have learned lots of things from this project. If i want to mention one is to ask several times even i don't understand or not have sufficient information about the matter.
3.identifying and listings my strong and weak point.
4. Manage to communicate with others.
Me
1) apart from the final presentation, the fact were all passionate and wanted to succeed
2) how to manage workload better and importance of voicing concern / help. also know that some people may not work the speed i do.
3) communication for all - maybe get to know people first, make sure everyone is on same page
4) my patience and tone, sometimes i know i can come across kinda hard / direct but i’m just too the point lol. also not to react tooo much in the moment and ensure i full understand the situation and people’s feelings 😅
Hannah then address everyones answers to summarise the project:
Thanks for doing these.
We all had learning curves definetly agree with that. I’m writing a ‘criticial friend’ reflection in my log. So as the response to those based on Mershas peer reviews we did about weaknesses and strengths I would say:
Tanisha - firstly don’t apologise for being you. I appreciate and respect your opinionated nature and your ability to argue / stand up for your point, as I usually avoid confrontation. Whilst that’s one of your strengths, i would say the weakness to that (from an outsiders perspective) is that sometimes you appear to be so caught up in the point that you’re arguing, I’m not sure you hear the other points? I completely get having to make friends etc - as an only child, it’s something I’m familiar with :)
Anahita: I think you really came out of your comfort zone in presenting yesterday, I imagine that was really hard. I think you’ve identified your weakness in that you don’t want to say ‘I don’t understand’ - but by asking you’ll gain a lot more confidence and learn more too. As Tanisha said we’re all learning.
Imaani: yes to your patience and I think you combat your tone by using voice notes? I think messaging sometimes can be misinterpreted. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with ‘getting to know everyone first’ - I think the fact we had worked together and had an idea of how the other worked. Maybe put us at a dis-advantage as a group.
I need to: mute WhatsApp and reply once when the conversation has played out. Rather than getting caught in a message war.
But as a whole we got there :) and for four opinionated strong willed women, we’re all still talking to each other haha 😂 and at least we have a break before the strategy group project haha.
It would be great if we can go out for a drink or something though -away from the proj when the lockdown permits!
Hope the rest of project a goes well for everyone! Xx
It was nice to see Hannah address my progression as I began using voice notes instead of messages. I much prefer this method of communication, face to face or video/calls. I felt this was a nice summary exercise and left the group of a good, closed note :)
